Picture Day Friday

Picture Day Friday this week, has been preponed to Thursday, in honor of those who died in the 9/11 bombings of the twin towers in NYC.

I visited Chateau de Chambord in the summer of 2001, and it's just as magnificient in real life as it is in this picture. Chambord is located in France's Loire Valley. It was built by Francois I from 1518 to 1547 with 40 rooms, 84 staircases, 365 fireplace, 1,200 horse stables all on 13,000 acres of woods.

Hi Kiera,
The castle is magnificent. If I ever get back to France, I'll make sure to see it. Did you go inside? Were there tours?
When I was in Europe for the summer of '72, I went to tons of museums and churches, but not too many castles. I was kind of poor and the dollar had just been devalued. I averaged spending nine dollars a day for nine and a half weeks (not counting my $185 airfare and $200 for gifts for my gigantic family). It was a fabulous experience, but I did miss those lovely castles.

Yes, they had tours of Chambord when we were there. However, in our case, we'd gone in there on our own, so we picked up a guidebook and read it out loud to each other as we strolled around. It made for a much more memorable tour.

We stayed mid-way at a small place in the Loire Valley and drove up and down the valley visiting the various castles and fortresses.
