Personal Picks: 20 Best of 2009

Copyright University of FloridaTo date, I've read a total of 147 unique books this year, not counting the re-reads of my favorites. The end of the year always brings out the list-y in me. I'm all goals, resolutions, bests, to-do's, what-have-yous, etc. busyness. In keeping with that and Eloisa James's B&N List, here are my top twenty romances that were published in 2009 (an unordered list).

The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley
Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas
What Remains of Heaven by C.S. Harris
Never Love a Lawman by Jo Goodman
Captive of Sin by Anna Campbell
The Lone Texan by Jodi Thomas
Easy on the Eyes by Jane Porter
Tears of Pearl by Tasha Alexander
A Duke of Her Own by Eloisa James
Gallant Officer, Forbidden Lady by Diane Gaston
So Enchanting by Connie Brockway
At Last Comes Love by Mary Balogh
The Conqueror by Kris Kennedy
What Happens in London by Julia Quinn
The Secret Wedding by Jo Beverley
Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas
Wicked Little Game by Christine Wells
The Winter Queen by Amanda McCabe
Beyond Heaving Bosoms by Smart Bitches
Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James

And I already have a best of 2010...Lessons in French by Laura Kinsale!

What are your top picks for 2009?

  3. Woot! I'm so honored to have my book on your Top 20 list, Keira! What a fabulous treat. I am touched, and hope to keep writing books that earn the distinction. :-)

Major congrats to all the others whose books Keira loved! I'm using it as a Recommend To Be Read list for the books I have not yet had the pleasure of.

  5. Thank you to the four of you for writing the books you did and providing hours of reading pleasure. Some of my list, I've already re-read and some I'm looking forward to re-reading in 2010.

Diane, you could say, all that time spent reading could've been better used elsewhere. But...man, was it fun!!!

Christine, Vane better be ready to do more than that. After all, he's mine!

Kris, I'm looking forward to your 2nd one. And congratulations once again on your new sale.

Fo, congratulations to Matthew for being the fab hero he was. To come out from where he was to where he made it, now that's an inspiration.

  6. Fo, that should be Gideon. Clearly, Matthew is going to be an indelible part of my memories like St. Vincent by Lisa Kleypas or Rothgar by Jo Beverley.

  7. 147 books!!! I think I read, er, maybe 10 non-research novels? I can't remember, but it def wasn't that many (and mostly older books on the TBR pile for a while!)

So glad you liked Winter Queen!!!

  8. Ammanda, you know how much I liked the Winter Queen. As far as my reading profligacy goes, I was a book slut in 2009.

  10. (sniff) Exclamation points do not possession make. You had Vane for nine months. Then Christine gave him to me, Keira Soleore, me. Since then, he's been mine.
