A-Castling I Go

Herrenchiemsee Bavarian PalaceThanks to a certain family member's job, I get to tag along to Munich and visit castles (while he works—hee!).

My list includes only recommendations, given our short time there...

Herrenchiemsee (which according to author Sara Lindsey is fun because it's in a lake & you take a boat to get there & it's like Versailles on crack) Neuschwanstein Bavarian Castle

Linderhof (which according to author Anna Campbell has a Turkish pavillion that will blow your mind)

Neuschwanstein (because it's the original Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle built by mad Koenig Ludwig II)

Residenz (which according to Sara is a downtown palace that has jewels)

Hohenschwangau (near Neuschwanstein, according to historian Alison Lodge)

Has any one of you been to Munich? If so, what did you do and see there? What were your highlights?

I loved Residenz and Neuschwanstein, but haven't seen the other two. I'm sure you'll have a great time whatever you choose!

Thanks for the second votes for R and N. I'm thinking N for sure; we bought our tickets. R most likely, too, since we're staying near the city center.

I remember Neuschwanstein from a visit I made as a child. I thought I was in fairyland! Hope you have a fabulous time!

Nicola, it truly was a fairyland castle, inside and out. Architecturally, colorwise, painting styles, furnishings...you name it, and dear ole' Luddi was a rather creative fellow.
